Private Property

Do you believe in the pearly gates?
I once thought it funny
that, be it in connotation alone
or not,
heaven needed borders.
Boundaries.
Territory.
And therefore, as the existence of a property
as a physical space implies,
subject to invasion.
As if without them,
all the best, most wonderful
souls
could not keep out a sneaky
nagging
evil.

This is not to say
that were there a battle between
those two forces
that good would fall to said evil,
simply
that it’s not impregnable
to such a thing.

That without that safeguard
evil could enter, infect,
and walk amongst good
without them ever knowing.
