Go Figure

I saw, last night, two lightning bugs
Playin in the grass
One touched the other, scared him bad
And he lit up his own ass

That bright light threw the first one
Into a laugh so hard
His own light shook and flickered
In middle of my yard

I smiled too at these two lights
Shining next to one another
The only one who got the joke
Passed from one bug to the other

It made me think how all the dark
And the roads we think dead-end
Can be shocked into a twinkling light
With but one touch from a friend

So if you’re tense and you see naught
But tests that you can’t pass
Keep in your heart the story of
Those two bugs playin the grass.
